Weekly Column:
Did you see the full match
between Nigeria and Mexico? As you must have seen the final score is 2 – 2.
What a match? If you are a Mexican fan you are satisfied with the result,
but if you are a Nigerian fan you are probably kicking yourself.
This is a match we should have won, a
match we must always win and a kind of match we cannot afford to lose again.
Why do we feel like we lost the game even though the score is tied? We had
it won but we let it slipped away. Great teams don’t let that happen to
them. The Super Eagles have talent, and should not be allowed to set their
goal on any thing but winning.
Playing draw with Mexico
national team is a positive thing but if you watch that match you must have
feel like the Super Eagles played at 2 different levels. First they were
aggressive, the wanted the game, went after ball and tackled well; just put
this way they played professional soccer. What is the end result? They were
up by 2 goals. Then they let their guards down and allowed Mexico back into
the game by playing street soccer. To win championships the Eagles must
learn to focus on the task at hand and play till the final is blown. Soccer
is not won at beginning of a soccer game, nor in the middle of the game. It
is won at the end of the game. I hope they learnt some thing about melt
down. Let’s play till the finish, can I get Ahem on that.
